Deciding with God

When you have learned how to decide with God, all decisions become as easy and as right as breathing. There is no effort, and you will be led as gently as if you were being carried down a quiet path in summer. Only your own volition seems to make deciding hard. The Holy Spirit will not delay in answering your every question what to do. He knows. And He will tell you, and then do it for you. You who are tired will find this is more restful than sleep. For you can bring your guilt into sleeping, but not into this. (A Course in Miracles T-14.IV.6)

Every day we are faced with myriad decisions. Each one seems to have many considerations. What will be the effect of this choice? Will we like the effect? What will we gain or lose? The desired outcome may itself have conflicting goals, leading to more uncertainty. All these questions and uncertainties come from the belief that we are separate, different from others and different from our Creator.

Since we never really did succeed in separating from our Source, all we need do to go beyond all questions and uncertainty is to accept ourselves as we were created, at one with our Creator, complete and without needs of any kind. To reach this state of full acceptance, we need the help of the Presence in our minds that remembers the truth about us.

Our practice today is to bring all our decisions to this Presence, the Holy Spirit, to decide for us on behalf of the truth of What we are. This decision is without conflict because What we are is one with all That is. Today we will practice asking with every decision “What would Holy Spirit have us do?”
