Let Me See the Truth in My Brother

Today I learn the law of love; that what I give my brother is my gift to me.

This is Your law, my Father, not my own. I have not understood what giving means, and thought to save what I desired for myself alone. And as I looked upon the treasure that I thought I had, I found an empty place where nothing ever was or is or will be. Who can share a dream? And what can an illusion offer me? Yet he whom I forgive will give me gifts beyond the worth of anything on earth. Let my forgiven brothers fill my store with Heaven’s treasures, which alone are real. Thus is the law of love fulfilled. And thus Your Son arises and returns to You.

How near we are to one another, as we go to God. How near is He to us. How close the ending of the dream of sin, and the redemption of the Son of God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 344, W-pII.344. See also ACIM Lesson 344 Insights.)

The perception of adversaries and differences comes from a desire to keep something for ourselves alone. What we try to keep for ourselves alone must be protected and kept apart. Peace is impossible in such a world, which is nothing but a dream.

We really want to see the truth in our brothers and ourselves. We really want to see and know the Love we share. This is the focus of all our searching here. But it cannot be found while we hang on to the desire to keep anything for ourselves alone.

It is through forgiveness that we let go of this mistaken desire. It is through forgiveness that the brother perceived as adversary becomes our dearest Friend, offering the gift of Love that cannot be found in the dream world. With the help of the Holy Spirit we have the means to lay down the false desires and accept the gift of Love that is ever present. Today we practice accepting Holy Spirit’s help.
