The Certainty of Love

Mary:
This is my prayer to Holy Spirit today:
Holy Spirit, take over my mind, for on my own I know nothing. Shine your Light on all the false ideas that come up for healing. Right now I put out the welcome mat and open the door to your peace. The peace of God is all I want and need. I dedicate today to accepting Your peace and healed perception. In truth I have no mind that is separate from Yours. Help me recognize this today. Amen.

Robert:
I remember a line from an early Garfield movie: “I need my space.” I can still hear it in my mind and it makes me chuckle. I realize that I have my own version of this. My version would be: “I need my plan.” I see that my tendency is to place my sense of security and trust in having a plan. I frequently remind myself to place the future in the hands of God.

But I see that this can be a halfhearted reminder. Half my heart really wants to wake up to the certainty of Love. The other half is still invested in the dream. So if Holy Spirit doesn’t show up with a satisfactory plan, I take back the future and start making my own plan. The thing is this never brings me peace, because all my plans are based on the past. Thus my plans are built upon illusions and can never offer me safety and peace.

So today my prayer is: I place the future in Your Hands. Strengthen my willingness with with Your certainty. Help me to remember the many times I have experienced the blessing of following Your plan. And when my thoughts turn back to old, worn ideas of what might make me safe, shine your Light upon them and help me remember Where my true safety lies. Thank you.
