Gratitude for the Self We Are

Today in gratitude we lift our hearts above despair, and raise our thankful eyes, no longer looking downward to the dust. We sing the song of thankfulness today, in honor of the Self that God has willed to be our true Identity in Him. Today we smile on everyone we see, and walk with lightened footsteps as we go to do what is appointed us to do. (A Course in Miracles W-pI.123.4)

It is only natural to welcome with a smile a friend whom we love and who loves us dearly. The truth in every brother is this loving Friend. If a brother doesn’t inspire us to smile in welcome, it is because we have overlaid a made up image that we have substituted for the truth of our brother. We are seeing that image from a made up image of ourselves.

It’s all a guilty and fearful fantasy that could never be true but hides the truth because of our belief in it. It is this fantasy we need to forgive, or let go of. As we practice giving thanks for the truth in our brothers, we shift our values from wanting the fantasy to full appreciation of the truth.

Today our practice is to join with the Holy Spirit in gratitude for all our brothers, who are one with us. It is gratitude for the Self we share and are.
